All About Little Blessing #2

If you've been stalking the Facebook interwebs lately you may be here because of this little picture...

Yes, Callie's big news is right!  Josh and I are expecting baby number 2 and we are THRILLED.  I am going to attempt to be just as on top of things as I was for Cal-girl and document the process the best I can... however, I now have so many hats to wear that I sometimes misplace my brain.  At least now I have an excuse!

Back in June Josh and I began talking about adding another little Morgan to the mix.  Before we were married we discussed kids and age gaps and knew we wanted more than one and ideally would like for them to be about two years apart.  Excitedly we both decided the timing was right.

We used a chalkboard to help document everything with Cal-Pal and were looking for something new for this little bundle of joy.  I teach kindergarten and spend a lot of time writing on white boards, not to mention they are SO much easier to decorate than chalkboards.  So we went and did a little thrift shopping and found the perfect frame.  A little trip to Lowes and some spray paint later we had the perfect baby board!  Eager to break it in we took these goofy pictures...

God blessed us right away with a positive pregnancy test in July and we were over the moon with excitement.  The next day during lunch with some friends I had some pretty extreme cramping and knew something wasn't right.  The next night, after some other not so great signs and the urging of my doctor, I went into the ER to have everything checked out.  The news they delivered was heart breaking... We had lost the baby.  I honestly never thought I would hear the word miscarriage being used as a diagnosis for me.  The emotional roller coaster of being pregnant one moment and empty the next is very hard to describe.  It brought me back to some pretty intense feelings from when I lost my dad.  The difficulty of having no control, no answers... It was an all too familiar feeling to me.  Josh was incredible throughout the whole process, offering me a shoulder to cry on, along with encouragement and lots of hugs.  The hardest thing to do is NOT to blame yourself.  Miscarriages happen everyday and most of the time they happen has a result of things not coming together correctly.  One night I had a dream about my dad and Josh's grandfather in heaven and woke up with this incredibly reassuring feeling that everything was going to be okay.  I realized that my daddy was getting to meet and take care of our little blessing and all of the grief and sadness washed away.

After the miscarriage and meeting with our new doctor we weren't sure when we would get pregnant again.   While vacationing in Destin two weeks later, I had a phenomenal encounter with a manatee while snorkeling... After talking to some lifeguards and other people we found out that not only is it incredibly rare to spot a manatee but when they swim up to  you, apparently it is good luck.  Call it coincidence, but to our delight, two weeks later we had a positive pregnancy test!  God has a plan for us, and we are delighted that He chose to allow us to carry so quickly after losing our last baby.

We have gotten to see the baby twice now, once at 5/6 weeks and the second time at 7/8 weeks.  The first ultrasound only showed the yolk sac (which looked remarkably like a bubble and gave us the nickname, bubble baby) and the second showed the profile, head/eyes, two tiny arms and legs and a tail!  At my last appointment they found a lump on one of my breasts and sent me into have an ultrasound to see what it was.  Last week I went in and they found a 4 cm benign cyst.  Because it is so large and causing so much pain I decided to schedule a cyst aspiration and will be going in tomorrow afternoon to have that procedure done.  I am just thankful that it isn't something more serious! Thank you God!!

That pretty much takes us up to now!  We just finished our 9th week (roughly... it's hard to know how far we are exactly b/c of the miscarriage and quick conception) and I am feeling pretty good.  Exhaustion is a new normal along with constant nausea (not too much time hugging the toilet this time, though) and some interesting aversions and cravings.  Our newest addition should be making his/her debut sometime in April 2014.  Here's a little bit more about the pregnancy and our 9 week picture.  Thank you all SO much for the many congratulations and words of excitement/encouragement.  We are fully blessed with wonderful family and friends and are thankful for each and every one of you!!  Prayers for a healthy, FULL TERM pregnancy would be very much appreciated. :)

How far along: 9 weeks 7 days
Total Weight Gain/Loss: As of right now I haven't gained any weight, but boy does it feel like I have!

Maternity clothes: None yet, but I will admit to wearing my belly band... It extends your regular pants to help make them fit longer and it's the most incredible invention ever.

Stretch marks: None

Sleep: Incredible minus really weird dreams and getting up to use the restroom.

Best moment last week: Getting to share the news with friends and family!  We gave our parents a Shutterfly book with pictures of Callie and the last one was this picture... Their reactions were priceless.

Movement: Not yet.

Food cravings: MEAT and salt.  I want BBQ, steak, bacon.... and could eat an entire bag of original Lays potato chips.

Gender: We don't know yet but we do have our gut feelings...

Labor signs: None, and hoping to keep it that way for a LONG TIME.

Belly button - in or out? In.

What I miss: Being able to remember simple things, like where I am driving while behind the wheel.  Seriously.  Oh- and water tastes awful to me now, so I definitely miss liking that!

What I am looking forward to: Getting through this first trimester to hopefully get some of my energy back!

Milestones: Seeing our bubble baby's heartbeat and getting the reassurance that everything is going wonderfully.

The Return of School

Clearly my goal of writing more over the summer was not obtained...  I am now an entire month back into the swing of things at work and it continues to blow my mind how quickly time flies.  I'd love to say that I am going to do a better job of writing things down, but it would be such a disappointment if I let myself down :).  Plus, let's be realistic here... It probably wont happen.

This summer was one of the best I have ever had.  Spending every single day with my mini me was truly a gift that I will always treasure.  Callie grew so much over the summer.  She walks, talks, steals hearts left and right, and has become this incredible little toddler full of energy, spunk and love for other people.  Lately she's been down in the dumps with croup and a sinus infection (such a great combination) but it looks like we should be on the uphill slope now, thank God!  She's loving school (for the most part) and getting to be with her BFF, Kinsley every day.  I swear those two girls are going to take the world by force someday.  Right now my absolute favorite things that Callie has started doing are saying thank you "daint-ooo,' singing "Jesus" (Jesus loves me) with us, giving kisses and when she shows us where her eyes, nose, mouth and hair are.  She always sticks her finger in her nose and pokes her eye... It's adorable.

Josh and I spent an ENTIRE week away for a much needed vacation right before school started back up.  He whisked me away to Destin, FL where we spent everyday laying on the beach without a worry in the world.  It was epic.  Don't worry, I limited my crying (over missing Callie) to once a day. :)  We had a really relaxing time together and brought home some pretty sweet tans.  Callie got to spend time with her Nana (Koch) and Gigi/Big Daddy (Morgan) while we were away.  Needless to say she was spoiled rotten :).

School has been really great so far.  Challenging, yes.  But I feel like my head is on so much tighter this year, I feel prepared, rested and even a little bit excited!  My kiddos are pretty great, too and I thank the Lord for that.  I love teaching Kindergarten - it's truly where my heart is.

Here are some pictures to catch you up on our crazy busy lives!

DIY Birthday Chalkboard Tutorial

Ever since my post about Callie's first birthday party I have received a ton of questions about how I made her stats "chalkboard."  My sweet niece just turned one and her momma asked me to make a chalkboard for her, so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to make a tutorial to answer all of your questions!

Here are the supplies you will need:
  • Black foam core board (Can be found at Hobby Lobby or other craft supply shops)
  • Metallic permanent markers (Max Pen UltraMark are the best and can be found at Walmart)
  • Pencil
  • Ruler or straight edge
  • Baby stats

The first step will be to find a font you want the name to be written in.  I free handed all of the letters and writing but if you are, shall we say, craft-challenged you can also just print out the letters using a computer, cut them and trace with a pencil.  Once you have picked the font use a straight edge to guide the writing and outline the letters in pencil.  **Note- do NOT use a lot of pressure when drawing with the pencil, you want the line to be barely visible.  If you make a mistake do NOT erase.  If you erase on the black board you'll be able to see a faded line from the eraser. (See picture below) I promise you won't be able to see the thin pencil mark mistakes once the board is complete.

After you've finished the outline take a marker and trace over the pencil lines.  This is a great time to add details, don't be afraid to make the lines more bold, you want the name to really stand out.

The second step would be to draw the scroll under the name.  It looks super complicated, but I promise if you just break it down step by step and draw each part as you go, it's not too difficult.  Follow the same steps as before, use a pencil to draw and then trace with the metallic marker.

At this point go ahead and section off the areas where you will list the 1 year information.  I just used a straight edge and added a little decoration on the ends.

Now the fun begins.  Experiment with different fonts on the computer, type out what you want to write and then eyeball it as you use a straight edge to keep the words from looking crooked.  Don't forget to add fun details like flowers and pictures of the things you've written to add a little more to the board.

That's all there is to it!  Make sure to allow a good chunk of time to make the board.  When I did Callie's I started a month in advance and just added details as I got the time.  If you do it right before the event you may get too fatigued to really do a good job and it will show in your work.  This whole thing should cost you less than $8.00 to make and it's permanent!  You can't beat that.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!

This Life

Flipping through my feed on Instagram reminds me how blessed we truly are to get to lead this life.  This summer is whirling by quickly and with it, memories are being made and cherished.  Here's a little bit of our summer in pictures!

I started, and finished a great book that challenged my faith and priorities.

Callie has had lots of playtime with her cousins

We've enjoyed wonderful evenings with friends and family
Played guitar

We celebrated a wonderful Father's Day.  Callie was dedicated to the church on her first Father's Day and this year we were blessed to attend her cousin, Kinsley's dedication!  Shame on me... I didn't get a single picture! How special for these girls to get to grow up in such a wonderful, Christian environment! The picture below is of Callie wearing her Daddy's first pair of boots and the caption was "With every step I take, I try so hard to walk in your shoes."

We celebrated the Fourth of July with incredible friends and family at my mom's AMAZING pool.
Callie's first Fourth of July compared to her second... My what a year can do!

And let's not forget all of the snuggle times, nap times and enjoying the let's-do-nothing-but-sit-on-our-butt times.

There are so many pictures that I am leaving out, but this summer has been an absolute blast so far.  I'm thankful to still have a few weeks left and can't wait to see what's in store.  My wonderful (favorite) niece is turning ONE this weekend and I cannot wait to celebrate her life with our amazing family.  Having a best friend for a sister in law has turned out to be really incredible and I am so glad the girls will have each other to grow up with.  :) Here's the picture her momma used for the invites... I was honored she asked me to take them!
